The Blue Hen Economics Club is funded by the Economics Department in the Lerner College of Business and Economics. The Club is open to all majors at the University of Delaware. We host a variety of events each semester, such as career-related workshops, guest speakers, case competitions, tutoring, and employer networking opportunities. Mission: We aim to build a sense of community among undergraduate economics students at the University of Delaware, while providing opportunities for growth through academic and social events.
Announcements: We typically announce events via email; sign in at an event to get your name added to the email list. We also announce select events through UD PO-Box to Economics, Finance, and other business majors. (We are no longer using StUDent Central for communications; emails will be distributed using Google Groups to @udel.edu addresses.)
Membership: We consider “members” to be undergraduate UD students who attend at least two (2) events every year. (If you have signed in at two events in the last year, feel free to add “Member, Blue Hen Economics Club” to your resume.) There are currently no dues required for membership. We reward especially loyal members in various ways (e.g. t-shirts for social media followers, goody bags at the end of the semester, etc.).
Leadership Positions: We typically hold elections for open officer/leadership positions in December. Candidates must be full-time undergraduate students at UD, be detail-oriented, be enthusiastic, enjoy economics, and must have attended at least one meeting or event during the current semester. Candidates who are planning to study abroad during the upcoming Spring or Fall semester should not apply, as we need the officers to be on campus. (Apply as soon as you return! Winter/Summer study abroad is fine.) Information about elections is typically circulated in November via email.
Other Involvement: We also occasionally have committees / small groups to address issues such as fundraising, event planning, or a special research project. These will be announced at meetings and/or via email. If you’d like to volunteer to tutor, please see the Tutoring page for more information.
